Did you know that in 2023 alone, our volunteers donated more than 3,500 hours of work for the Foundation. According to the latest report from Independent Spector, in conjunction with the Do Good Institute, one volunteer hour in 2023 equates to an hourly rate of $31.80. That’s more than $111,300 donated by our volunteers in 2023.
This week, April 21-27, is National Volunteer Week, so we wanted to take the opportunity to highlight some of the amazing work that Joseph Maley Foundation volunteers have done, and showcase how the Foundation relies on the generosity and support of all our volunteers.
EVENTS
Every event that Joseph Maley Foundation puts on is made possible by the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, who help staff at all levels put on the best possible events year over year. From acting as a course marshal at our annual Run, Walk, Roll, to manning the bingo game out our Junior Board’s Game Night. There’s no shortage of ways that volunteers help make our events possible! Want to learn more about volunteering for one of our events (listed below) contact our Executive Director, Vivian Maley, at vmaley@josephmaley.org.

PROGRAMMING
Beyond our events, Joseph Maley Foundation volunteers assist with educational programming, serving as puppeteers and/or program speakers. Seventh and eighth grade students serve as puppeteers and perform diversity-focused skits for Greater Indianapolis youth.
Folks of all ages serve as program speakers, and visit area schools to share about their lived experiences with students. Speakers put a human face and voice to the educational lessons offered through our programming, and allow students the opportunity to ask questions. If you or someone you know may be interested in serving as a program speaker, please contact Education Manager, Marla Wald at mwald@josephmaley.org.
In addition, our adaptive fitness programming — consisting of our run2gether initative and our seasonal Family Fun Days — rely on the support of dedicated volunteers. These unique offerings provide adaptive and inclusive recreational activities for youth of ALL abilities. For run2gether, volunteers serve as crew members who are paired with youth with a disability, to train for and compete in local races using specialized racing chairs. Family Fun Days, on the other hand, offer single day inclusive events for families to play together! Volunteers assist in a myriad of ways, from running craft tables, to post-event clean up. If you’re interested in volunteering for our Fitness program, please contact Coordinator, Caroline Barlow at caroline@josephmaley.org
